Recommendations

Sheath testing of cable (1-36 kV) with plastic sheath after installation

Checking that a cable has not been damaged during installation should be done using a sheath test, which is also recommended in Swedish and international standards. This is the best way to ensure that a cable has not been damaged during installation work. If the sheath is undamaged, the insulation is almost always intact. Read more here SELC-11:005.

Using direct current (DC) on standard cable

Direct current (DC) voltage is now used in more contexts than before. The information in the linked document specifies the maximum DC voltage levels that can be used on a cable with a stated alternating current (AC) voltage rating. Read more here SELC-23:030.

Eliminate problems with installation cables for lighting fixtures

Recently, several cases have been reported where installation cables in lighting fixtures have been damaged by heat in combination with UV radiation. The lighting industry, together with Selcable, the Swedish trade association for cable manufacturers, has analyzed the issue and compiled background information. At the same time, a general recommendation has been agreed upon to eliminate the problem. Read more here SELC-12:022.
