This is how much the cable drum is worth – new tool for price calculation
During the year, Selcable launched a new tool for calculating the price of drum returns. The hope is to motivate, facilitate and increase the number of drums returned after use.
– We want to make it easier for customers to return drums on which cables have been delivered and thereby also increase the return frequency, mainly on the smaller drums that currently have a lower reuse rate, says Bo Rasmusson, technical secretary at Selcable.
The cable manufacturers within Selcable have had a common system for the disposal of cable drums for many years. The cable drums can be used on average eight times before being recycled as wood waste. The return system thus saves both natural resources and contributes to a more circular and sustainable society.
The new the calculation tool is very simple. By entering the drum size, number of drums and drum quality, the value, weight, volume weight and flat meters of the drums for the freight are calculated.
– User-friendliness has been important when we developed the tool. It should be easy to do the right thing and get as accurate a sum as possible for the return. Flakmeter is used to then calculate the shipping cost of the transport pipes and thus quickly calculate the total profitability of the return.
The tool is intended for end customers such as electrical companies, construction companies and power plants, who often build up a stock of empty drums. Intermediaries such as wholesalers can also use it for price calculation.
– This is one of several measures that we at Selcable are taking to contribute to the industry's sustainability thinking and social benefit. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to further develop the tool in the future and both simplify and improve it for all actors further, concludes Bo Rasmusson.
